Cookies & local storage

Last updated September 2026

This page describes storage that Electric Monsters actually uses today. It is not a claim that the project uses “no cookies.” Some storage is essential for login; some stays only on your device for preferences and performance.

Companion app cookie

When you log into the Companion app, the server may set a session cookie named EMSESSID. In the current implementation it is configured as:

  • HttpOnly — not readable by JavaScript in the page
  • Secure — sent over HTTPS
  • SameSite=Lax
  • Path /app
  • Lifetime about 30 days

This cookie keeps you signed in. It is not an advertising cookie. The Companion front-end JavaScript does not use localStorage or sessionStorage for app features in the current implementation.

Marketing website browser storage

The public website may store small values in your browser:

  • localStorage key em-bg-audio-muted — remembers whether background audio is muted
  • sessionStorage key em-fps-probe — caches a short client-side performance check used to decide whether heavier animations should run

Those values stay on your device for that purpose. They are not described here as analytics or advertising identifiers.

Contact forms

Website contact forms may collect name, email, optional phone, and a message so Jakob can reply. That is form data sent to the project, not a tracking cookie.

No marketing / tracking cookies found currently

In the current implementation, no advertising or marketing analytics cookies (for example gtag, Plausible, or similar tags searched for in the codebase) were found. This page does not claim that analytics “may be enabled.” If that changes later, this page should be updated to match reality.

Managing storage

You can clear cookies and site data in your browser or WebView settings. Clearing EMSESSID will sign you out of the Companion. Clearing website local/session storage resets those preferences and probes.

More detail on personal data sits in the Privacy Policy. Questions: info@electric-monsters.com.
